About
Welcome to Lost in the Hex!
This blog is my attempt at giving back to a community that has given me everything.
All content found herein is wholly my own and not a reflection of any employer.
Here you can expect to find educational posts, rants about random technology, and other musings about computers. I’ll probably document the occasional personal project here too.
Is this another slop blog?
Absolutely not! I will undoubtedly use an LLM from time to time in some of the material I post here, but it will always be explicitly called out. Furthermore, it rubs me the wrong way when I see blog posts that are written by a slop-bot. I get that people are busy and have a lot on their plate, but let us all strive to be better communicators and practice the sharing of information through our writing. Aside from sharing information, this blog forces me to write which is something I’ve struggled with all my life.
So the answer is no. The posts here will be written, for better or worse, by yours truly.
Where did your handle come from?
When I was 17 years old, I was diagnosed with stage one testicular cancer. Thankfully, testicular cancer has a high cure rate and I caught it very early. For more perspective, my doctor had this to say when I was diagnosed, “as a man, if you must get one type of cancer in your lifetime, this is the one to get” (probably not verbatim but the message is the same). After the diagnosis came the surgery. After the surgery came six weeks of preventative chemotherapy.
If you are reading this, and know someone going through chemotherapy or any type of cancer treatment, please reach out to them. Those six weeks were without a doubt, the hardest thing I’ve ever had to endure and I had it easy compared to most. So please, be kind and reach out to someone you know going through treatment of any kind.
Ahh yes, back to how my handle came about! After my treatment I finished high school and began university at Rochester Institute of Technology studying computing security. To keep this short, some friends and I were hanging out hacking away at homework, projects and whatever else. There was a bottle of scotch involved and someone said I should make my handle “one-nut”. The scotch and I leaned into this, doubled down, and that is how my handle “oneNutW0nder” was born.
